March 1st is St David's Day and Saint David is the patron saint of Wales. In Wales on this day people wear daffodils on their lapels, make cakes called Welshcakes and generally celebrate. Competitions called Eisteddfods, of music and poetry, are held in schools in Wales and in the evening there are concerts across the country.
