LANGUAGE TESTS FOR EU DOCTORS IN UK

At this year's Conservative Party Conference the British Minister of Health, Andrew Lansley, announced a new law which will introduce English language tests for all foreign doctors who wish to work in Britain.  Until now the language test rule has not applied to doctors coming from other EU countries.  The new proposal follows a high-profile case in which a patient died after a German doctor overprescribed a painkiller.

Mr Lansley said,

"I am determined that doctors who come from overseas to work here must not only have the right qualifications, but also the language skills needed to practise here."
