Suffragette - the suffragettes were women who campaigned for the right to vote at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries in Britain.

Purple - one of the colours that the suffragettes adopted for their campaign.  It symbolised dignity.  The other two colours used were green and white.

Emmeline Pankhurst [1858 - 1928] - leader of the suffragette movement in Britain.

Mimosa blossom - in Italy mimosa flowers are a symbol of International Women's Day.

Clare Zetkin [1857 - 1933] - a German socialist and campaigner for women's rights.  International Women's Day was her idea.
